The winter just doesn´t rock. Only somewhere in the mountains with snow, where you can do snowboarding or other winter sport activities, despite at these places, there is no use for the coldness at all. That´s why we overwinter since a few years in the warmer hemispheric. And we bring as well always nice photo-, video- and audio-footage with us to show you on the Feinripp Magazine and other channels and to inspire you as well to travel a bit more by yourselves. This January we went to Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, and these countries have a lot to show. Especially for the street art rubric at Feinripp we collected a lot of interesting and nice new graffiti from overseas.
Today you will get a little look into the street art of Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. The city is already very impressive only by its stunning architectonic colonial style combined with the turmoil on the streets and all this in a kind of bedraggled but still friendly and sunny neighborhood. Asunción has about 550.000 habitants, in the congested urban area they estimate about 1,9 million. The name of the city stands for Assumption Day. Actually is Asunción just a practical and very useful abbreviation for the whole long name „La Muy Noble y Leal Ciudad de Nuestra Señora Santa Maria de la Asunción”, which would make it a bit difficult and time-killing in daily usage. The designation in the second national language after Spanish, that is Guaraní, the cities name means: Paraguaŷ. That would fix much better with the name of the country. Which is in Guaraní: Paraguái. By the way.
The country doesn´t have direct access to the sea, but it is built at the Río Paraguay, this is the 10th-biggest river in South America. Alongside this river they constructed some artificial beaches in and around the city; the stream network is drawing through the whole country. And this country is one of the “greenest” countries you could imagine. Understandable that the cows around here on the meadow feel like in paradise. Asunción has as well a well and fluid functioning shipping traffic. Especially in these shipping trading center cities there you will find always a very interesting area around the harbor with a lot of warehouses, stockrooms and huge walls. And therefore you will find as well nice and good graffiti at these places. You just have to search a little bit, and explore the area, but you will find always here and there, and particularly in the little hidden alleys, some masterpieces of street artwork. The suburbs or city parts which are to recommend for street graffiti are ahead Sajonia, San Antonio, Gral Diaz und Dr Francia at the harbor, the other hoods are alongside the Río Paraguay circled around the old center.
Have a look as well on the nice video of Diestro about the making of a graffiti in the city. A lot of nice photographs from Streetart in Asunción you can find in our Fotogallery:
